Unevenness to the rim is all in manufacture. Style:
Dutch Hand made pottery tile with a painted design
by Joseph Roelants. Such 1920s/30s examples are
more consistently painted than earlier examples,
later the company screenprinted the patterns.
This a more complex painting than any other that
I have seen which often lack the colourful
flowers on the near river bank and even the
trees on the far bank, perhaps this an earlier
example and later the painting was simplified.
Blanchett shows an example with the trees but
without the flowers Examples of simplification are seen from time
to time on nineteenth century tiles too,
simplification of painting but also replacing
painting with colour printing indeed Carter did
this themselves in the 1890s at a time when
decorative tile manufacture was apparently
subcontracted. Verso near perfectly clean.
