One very tiny rim chip, couple touches of wear
to the surface otherwise perfect glazes. Style:
Aesthetic movement Quite a rarity, embossed tiles from the
company are scarce, registered embossed scarcer
indeed their most popular were embossed versions
of transfer printed patterns. Pehaps a little
out of date for botanical floral designs were
the most popular at the time nevertheless a nice
tile with brilliant glazes. The Decorative Art Tile Company is best known
nowadays for their transfer print and tint tiles
but as the name suggests they also produced some
excellent painted 6 x 12 tiles and panels. Most
go unrecognised for they used blanks from many
of the better known companies such as Boote,
Marsden and Campbell but maybe a dozen more,
their failing to press their own biscuit no
doubt contributed to the demise in the edwardian
era. This is a Marsden blank presumably glazed
by The Decorative art tile Co.. Verso very clean, embossed design
registration number.
