Two corner chips, other very minor marks to the
rim (middle bottom edge a manufacturing flaw) ,
surface is perfect. Style: Arts & crafts diaper An anglo-dutch, arts & crafts tile made
in Holland primarily for arts & crafts
clientele in England, finely painted in two
colours. All underglaze decorated and with a
quite brilliant glaze, rather unusually good for
such tiles. William Morris's daughter May used
this design in a fireplace at her late father's
house Kelmscott Manor. A number of importers are
recorded of whom the best known was Thomas
Elsley of the Portland Metal Works. Verso very clean, stamped pattern number.
