Tiny chip top edge, very
tiny glaze chip lower right leaf, other very minor
marks. Style: Floral A good interesting tile the design the most
popular of all the transfer printed and tinted
tiles of the era much less often found in
majolica. The flower colours quite similar to
the printed version, bright and cheerful
colours, but set against a brown background
rather than white. The deep yet warm brown and
gold and red to the leaves would have reflected
the firelight wounderfully. It is interesting to see the development of
styles and techniques, as majolica became
popular few transfer printed designs were able
to cross over the fine line detail impossible to
replicate in majolica and so new design styles
developed to accomodate the technique. This tile
made about ten years after the design
registration, it is not known when majolica
versions were first made. Verso very clean, the company's registered
design grip pattern, embossed England and design
registration nmber.
