Floral An excellent floral design from Lewis Day and
great manufacturing the outline created with the
sensitivity of an artist with feel in the weight
quite different to Pilkington's first
'cloisonné' floral designs. Fresh and
bright with lovely movement and lightness of
touch this is a great design. Often called art nouveau or sometimes arts
& crafts but I rather think it is a
straightforward botanical representation albeit
of the utmost quality and not or barely even
conventionalised (arranged to best suit the
mediaum of representation). Lewis Day famously
loathed art nouveau although it can be difficult
for anyone to remain detached from the trends so
quite possibly Day subliminally took on board
some of the sensibilities of designs of the
times. Versos near perfectly clean some slight
staining, some minor clay loss from pearl glue,
embossed P in opposing corners and design
registration number.
