Very tiny chip bottom edge, minute chip left
edge, other very slight marks to the rim, perfect
surface. Style: Arts & crafts floral A lovely barbotine floral tile of narcissus
flower and bud delicately and sensitively
decorated. This was one of the more popular
designs for we see it occasionally but this
slightly creamy and rather thick glaze is
unusual, it and these type of barbotine tiles in
general are most often found with a honey colour
glaze. Barbotine tiles do not show well on screen
perhaps due to the excellence of the glaze the
effect of which only carries when seen in real
life, it was only Sherwin & Cotton who made
any substantial amount of them and this may well
have been due to their superior glazes. They
were very expensive tiles around double the
price of majolica and three to four times the
price of tinted prints. Verso very clean, incised pattern number,
Sherwins Patent and badge embossed (very
faint).
