Two very tiny chips bottom edge and one minute
top edge. Some light surface marks mostly near the
side edges from the fireplace frame. Style/technique: Art nouveau majolica An interesting design, art nouveau, art deco,
lots of opportunity for discussion. The central
element of the design very curvaceous, art
nouveau, 'Mackintosh style' in some respects,
overlaying a very geometric angular element. One
could take the main curvaceous element, set it
on a 3" x 6" tile, glaze in those bolder,
richer, blues and reds etc and it would be
amazing and a pure art nouveau design. Verso mostly clean a little smoke stain,
pattern number painted and indicating
introduction around 1910, grip pattern one of
Richards most unusual and seems to be late
edwardian and the second decade of the 20thC The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430
pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format, a
larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG
format can be forwarded by email if required. The image is a little oversize rather than
cropped close to the edges so that the edges can
easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly
spotted. Other marks described are usually not
visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as
one normally sees it and can only be seen with a
critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch
imperfections in reflected light. For more details
of how we describe marks see Condition.
