Condition Report
Tiny chip top left corner, a few other very
tiny/minute edge chips. Darker patches on the
border are manufacturing flaws, where the glaze is
thin and doesn't provide adequate cover for the
stain it bakes to a darker colour. Surface
condition is near perfect, the tile is very clean
and bright and the glaze has excellent
brilliance.

One of a series of twelve landscapes engraved by L
T Swetnam in1886 and the series introduced the
following year. Few of these scenes are identified
and tiles from the series do not come along very
often. An interesting mix of decorating techniques
being both lithoprinted and block printed,
lithoprint for the fine detailed scene and block
printing for the solid colours in the borders.
Shown in the catalogue, also in single colour
brown as pattern 2228 and elsewhere seen as pattern
2231 in another colourway; this to my mind being
the most attractive colourway.
Verso very clean, named and badged.
