Only very slight marks. Style: Arts & Crafts floral A fabulous, stylistic arts & crafts style
handpainted tile with gently flowing stems and
bold stylised flowerheads in pink, red and
brown. Absolutely superb quality in both design
and execution, very stylish and very well
painted, most precisely yet with great feel. Verso quite clean, probably Campbells
biscuit, with hand written markings which
include a cryptic pattern number, encrypted
price, and what appear to be the initials JE
upper left corner verso as seen below. This
biscuit was also on occassion used by Mintons
Art Pottery Studio Kensington Gore and whilst
the quality of this would be equal to the
handful of their better works such attribution
can be virtually discounted as one from this
group is painted on Minton Hollins biscuit! The
tile really is incredibly good workmanship which
demands positive attribution which has to date
eluded me. JE could well be for John Eyre who
was a designer and painter, foreman and kiln
superintendent at Kensington Gore. When that
closed he had a studio at Phillips in Oxford
Street and he also worked for Copeland and
Doulton Lambeth.
