Floral Tiles

Predominently Victorian but such floral designs were also produced in the Edwardian era, most were Victorian patterns carried over but a few were new designs. Also included are tiles showing fruit as the main object in the design. Of course flowers never go out of fashion but this style was most popular between 1880 and 1900 consisting of designs with a dominant flower pattern that shows a reasonable botanical likeness albeit often with some elements of styling. Often framed within a border or with corner motifs meeting to make another device in wall panels, maybe indicative of a style such as aesthetic or rococo, but in all the focus remains the flower. Many are the usual outline print, some with painted colours, but there are also handpainted, barbotine (decorated with slip), majolica and tiles decorated with less often used techniques.
